I had a fun shoot with Reagan today. She's 4 years old, very active, and so beautiful. When Reagan showed up on the scene with her mother, she seemed shy and unsure of what was to come. After allowing her to move about on her own, explore the location, think up "poses", and see herself in the camera, she became much more comfortable with me and our time together. Four years was my favorite age with my own son, and also my favorite age for photographing children. Their personalities shine so bright. You can direct them, but shouldn't over direct. If you make sure they know they can trust you, and they can explore without being confined to a specific spot or position for long, they will have a good time. I get much better photos just following them around and allowing them to do things on their own (with just suggestions here and there).
Here are some of my favorite shots (so far) of Miss Reagan...
**Reagan's photos were all shot on a Nikon D7000 with either a Lensbaby Muse or a Tamron 70-300 2.8, and processed in Lightroom and Photoshop.**
